A quarter sock sits above the trainer line and below the calf, high enough to protect your ankle from the shoe collar, low enough not to feel like a sports sock from 1994.
These are cushioned through the sole and toe to absorb impact, knitted fully seamless so nothing rubs when your feet swell mid-run, and finished with a non-binding cuff. That last part is the one runners notice: elasticated tops leave a compression ring on your calf after a couple of hours, and these don't.
Light, but not thin
The cushioning is zoned rather than all-over, so you get padding where your foot strikes and a thinner, more breathable knit everywhere else. Bamboo draws damp away instead of holding it, and resists smells naturally, which is the practical argument for wearing these to the gym rather than a cotton pair.
